Charles Mitchell died from wounds on 18th October, 1914, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast, but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 2nd Welsh battalion was part of 3 Brigade, 1st Division, that had arrived in France in August, 1914 at the beginning of the war and had been engaged in much of the fighting since then including the Battle of the Aisne in September, 1914
